The Lagos Sailing Club was founded on April 20, 1950, with the publication of its statutes in the Official Gazette on April 25 of that year. Since then, it has been the only nautical sports club in the city, never having interrupted its activity. It has fulfilled local requirements and requests for the use of Lagos Bay, which is considered the best sailing track in the country and one of the best in Europe. The Lagos Sailing Club was recognized as a Public Utility Sports Legal Entity on October 23, 1990, for all that it has done for the sporting development of the city and the country.
