The territorial scope of intervention of the Nautical Station is the geographical area of the Municipality of São Pedro do Sul.
Located in the central interior of the Central Region of Continental Portugal, São Pedro do Sul is one of the 14 municipalities in the Viseu Dão Lafões sub-region (NUT III). The municipality borders Castro Daire to the northeast, Arouca to the northwest, Vale de Cambra to the west, Oliveira de Frades to the southwest, Vouzela to the south, and Viseu to the southeast. Viseu, Vouzela, and Oliveira de Frades, like São Pedro do Sul, belong to the Viseu Dão Lafões sub-region and the Viseu district, while Vale de Cambra and Arouca belong to the Porto Metropolitan Area (NUT III) and the Aveiro district. Together with Oliveira de Frades and Vouzela, São Pedro do Sul delimits the 'Lafões microregion', being located in the heart of the Lafões Valley.
São Pedro do Sul is located within the Vouga River basin and the Paiva River sub-basin. Among the most important tributaries of the Vouga River are the Mel River, the Sul River, the Varoso River, and the Teixeira River. The Paivô stream is a notable tributary of the Paiva River. Furthermore, the banks of these rivers and streams form riparian galleries that contribute to the scenic beauty of the region.
